U-19 USYNT October Roster Analysis

Eyebrow graphic
October 2025
The 2007 group is back together for an international window in Spain where they’ll face Northern Ireland on October 11 (9 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. local) and Belgium on October 14 (8 a.m. ET / 2 p.m. local). This camp will be led by Gus Teren, who becomes the third head coach in as many camps following Marlon LeBlanc and Shaun Tsakiris. Teren currently serves as Sporting Director for Ohio Premier Soccer Club and has been active in youth development and coaching education circles over the last decade.

This 2007 class will soon become the focal point of the next U-20 cycle. Once the current U-20 World Cup and U-17 World Cup cycles conclude later this year, expect the 2007s and 2008s to begin merging into the next U-20 player pool that will carry through the next two years.

Top eligible players not on the roster

GK – Giorgio De Marzi, Roma (2007)
Still waiting for De Marzi to get his first look with U.S. Soccer. He remains one of the top keepers in the age group and is playing at a strong level in Italy.

LB – Peyton Miller, New England Revolution (#1 2007 prospect)
Currently with the U-20s at the World Cup.

LB – Dominik Chong-Qui, Atlanta United (#12 2007 prospect)
Hasn’t been active with Atlanta United 2 recently, which may indicate an injury issue.

CB – Chibuike Ukaegbu, Sacramento Republic (#11 2007 prospect)
Playing up with the 2006 U-20 reserve group, though it’s unclear whether that’s a meaningful step up or just roster management. He feels like a more relevant fit here with the 2007s.

CB – Jackson Platts, Orlando City (2007)
Played well at the UEFA Friendship Cup but hasn’t returned to the group since.

CB – Kaiden Moore, Philadelphia Union (2007)
The top left-footed center-back in the class and one who continues to show technical quality and composure on the ball.

DM – Sebastian Rodriguez, Houston Dynamo (2007)
Performing well in MLS Next Pro and deserving of a look in this environment.

CM – Darius Lane, Brighton (#14 2007 prospect)
Likely injured — he also wasn’t in the last squad and hasn’t yet featured for Brighton’s U-21s this season.

AM – Gavin Turner, Chattanooga FC  (#10 2007 prospect)
Continues to be overlooked despite being one of the better creative players in the class.

AM – Xantiago Oyharcabal, Athletic Club (2007)
I haven’t seen a full match yet, but his highlights suggest a technically sharp, attack-minded midfielder who should be on the radar.

AM/W – Zane Okoro, Lincoln City (#15 2007 prospect)
An inventive playmaker with flair and creativity; worth a look at some point.

W – Zavier Gozo, Real Salt Lake (#2 2007 prospect)
The lone 2007-born player on the U-20 roster and a strong candidate for the 2025 U-20 World Cup, playing a full cycle up.

W – Aiden Hezarkhani, Real Salt Lake (2007)
One of the few wingers in the pool who can reliably beat defenders one-on-one. His exclusion stands out given the team’s lack of wide creators.

CF – Din Klapija, RB Leipzig (#20 2007 prospect)
Featured in recent camps but not included this time around.

Player receiving first camp

There are not any players who are in a USYNT camp for the first time.

Roster grade: B-

This is a solid roster overall, though it lacks higher-end dynamism on the wing and in midfield, but that's mainly a shortcoming with this class. The fullback group looks strong and the center-back pool is steady, but I would have preferred to see Ukaegbu here rather than playing up with the 2006s.

The midfield group has good technical quality but lacks athleticism and ball-carrying power. With Darius Lane out, that weakness becomes even more noticeable. There’s an abundance of central creators and attacking midfielders but not enough wingers who can break pressure or win battles in isolation. Hezarkhani is the best option in that profile and his absence leaves a gap.

The striker pairing of Ellis and Fields offers nice balance — Ellis brings holdup play and creativity, while Fields provides verticality and direct movement in behind.

A few Europe-based players like De Marzi, Okoro, and Oyharcabal should be integrated sooner rather than later, and this Spain camp would have been an ideal opportunity. Overall, this is a competent and representative group of 2007s, but one that feels slightly conservative in selection.
