Roster reactions
There aren't any big surprises on this roster aside from Elijah Scott, who gets his first USYNT selection. Scott is a German-American center back who spent a lot of time at Stuttgart's Academy before being purchased by Lecce in Serie A. He sustained a fairly serious injury shortly after that move last year, but he's returned and started 17 of the last 18 games for Lecce's Primavera side. Outside of Scott, a lot of familiar names from the 2006 class. The top players on the squad include Taha Habroune, Julian Eyestone, Luca Bombino, Bryce Jamison, Andrew Rick, Bajung Darboe and David Vazquez.
Rick has potentially jumped Adam Beaudry in the goalkeeper pecking order, which is deserved. Shakir Nixon is the lone college selection, a player I've rated since his days at LAFC's Academy — I think he's a future pro. Dylan Borso also earns a selection after some impressive performances in both MLS and MLS Next Pro. Colton Swan is the lone 2007, not because he's rated higher than other 2007s, but more so because there weren't any other 2006 strikers available with Eddy Davis and Keyrol Figueroa injured. Matai Akinmboni, Keyrol Figueroa and Andre Gitau all likely would have been selected if healthy.
There's another group of players that are likely missing because of club release issues. That list likely includes Cole Campbell, Pedro Soma and Matthew Corcoran.
In terms of omissions, the top two 2006s aren't here — Noahkai Banks and Diego Kochen. Banks' story is well known. He's currently waiting on Germany in the wake of a USMNT offer. Diego Kochen on the other hand is playing with the U-21 team. Outside of those two, assuming the names above were release issues, the only name that deserves a shout is Oscar Verhoeven, who's a rotational player for San Diego FC. SDFC are fairly thin at right back, but they did release Luca Bombino, so it's hard to pinpoint what's going on there.
Roster grade: A
The roster is sensible if my club release assumptions are correct. If any of those players weren't selected, I'd take issue with that, but otherwise it's a solid roster with some potential future USMNT players in it.
